Ligoniel Economy Initiatives

We wish to develop overarching social economy initiatives which are the result of discussions with the local community, research undertaken by the Ligoniel Improvement Association and discussions with community, statutory and private organisations. They will be underpinned by the 5 year integrated strategy developed by Ligoniel Village Regeneration Partnership. This strategy aims to bring together private, public, voluntary and community groups and organisations in a partnership to seek ways and means of tackling (in an integrated manner) the social, economic and environmental problems and issues facing the Ligoniel community. Social Economy Initiatives will be developed under 3 programmes: 1. Household: Gardening and environmental work, House cleaning, Shopping, Ironing, Cleaning garages and attics, Moving furniture, Cleaning rubbish. 2. Building maintenance (Commercial and Statutory), Maintenance of the common spaces (Service Purchasers, Private Housing Developers and Housing Associations), Maintenance of community and voluntary sector buildings. 3. Environmental Services: Maintenance of Green Spaces (Service Purchasers, Private Housing Developers and Housing Associations), Environmental maintenance (Belfast Hills, NIHE Estate, Woodland Trust), Maintenance of Common Green Space (Service Purchasers, Private Development and Housing Associations). Positive initial discussions have taken place with private and public housing organisations and extensive discussions have also been undertaken with local residents and community groups which suggest that there is potential for sustainable social economy initiatives to be developed.
