Re-imaging Communities Programme

Our project converts and transforms visible signs of sectarianism and inter-community separation, as well as putting in place iconic pieces of art. It allows communities to reflect on, plan, and (in partnership with local artists) carry out ways of replacing divisive imagery (such as murals), or creating new imagery through public art that reflects communities and local areas in a positive way. The project will support communities that are actively seeking to transform their area. The aim is to address visible and hidden signs of sectarianism and racism within Northern Ireland and the Border Counties using arts projects to promote the ethos of a better and shared future. The programme will aim to promote better relations between communities across Northern ireland and the Border Counties, whilst allowing for equality of cultural expression. The project will have three strands: (1) Financial and non-financial support for new applicant communities to carry out projects. (2) Development work with communities already involved in a re-imaging process to establish cross-border linkages and projects. (3) The establishment of 3 pieces of iconic public art.
