Project Details

Sharp Focus - Crossing the Divide

Sharp Focus – Crossing the Divide is a four part TV series; part documentary, part drama. The project brings four groups of young people from disadvantaged areas affected by the conflict, North and South of the Border, together with professional film makers on the production of four short films. Each film will focus on a particular event that took place during the conflict, and each film will explore the impact this event had on the participants’ communities. The project will involve comprehensive research that will integrate and include the stories of victims and survivors. This will happen with the participation of the WAVE Trauma Centre, and the Healing Through Remembering organisation, Belfast. The project will challenge the preconceptions that each of the four groups have about each other, and about the communities across the divide. It will encourage the participants to look back at the conflict in an interactive, innovative, and crucially, a creative way. Ultimately the films will explore the legacy and memory of the conflict, and examine and highlight the challenges of reconciliation, as seen through the eyes of forty young people. The complete making of this project will be filmed from the beginning to end and will culminate in a four part TV series for BBC Northern Ireland – three episodes documenting the process the young people went on, and the final episode is the screening of all four films consecutively.
