Project Details

Give Yourself a Voice

The project uses music as a vehicle to tackle issues of sectarianism by analysis of songs such as Sunday Bloody Sunday, Alternative Ulster and The Island. The project will involve up to 80 young people from across 4 areas within the Cluster with 5 sessions per group leading to the recording of an 8 track album of original songs based on the positive outcomes of the peace song analysis and two facilitation sessions per group dealing with flags, emblems and identity. After the CD is produced the 4 groups will get together to perform the songs they have written at a Concert at Island Arts Centre with the band of professional musicians who were involved in the writing process with them to an audience of their peers of approximately 200. CDs and Lyrics will be presented to the participants and youth groups.
