Clones Erne East Shadow Youth Partnership Peace and Reconciliation Project

The Clones Erne East Shadow Youth Partnership is a Cross Community and Cross Border Partnership. It is focused on young people, aged 13 to 20 in the Clones Erne East Area and is about empowering young people to become active citizens and to facilitate them in building positive relations at a local level and contributing to Peace and Reconciliation. It also empowers young people in the Clones Erne East Area to have a voice about, and be pro-active in dealing with Peace and Reconciliation issues that affect them. Following on from previous work done, this project will involve an Implicit Association Test, (IAT) to determine the implicit attitudes of 300 young people in the Clones Erne East Area towards Peace and Reconciliation issues. Then a focused piece of work to build the capacity of young people to challenge those negative attitudes, to run a media campaign to highlight learning and hold a number of events where meaningful contact will take place between young people cross border and cross community. This project will be led by the Shadow Youth Partnership which is made up of 20 young people from both sides of the border and both communities. An implicit association test will take place towards the end of the project with the same young people who were involved in the first test to measure the distance travelled in terms of their attitudinal change. A seminar will take place to which key influencers, (teachers, politicians, youth workers,) will be invited to share the learning gained and show the progress made. A lasting legacy of this project will be positive attitudinal change amongst young people which enhance the peace and reconciliation agenda.
