Cunning Cool East - Peace Empower Programme (PEP)

The project aims to develop the capacity and skills of the people living in the area in the arena of conflict resolution and build on the cross community work which the lead local community organisation, Cunningham’s Lane Cross Community Residents Association has built up over the past number of years. A group of approximately 16 people from the area will participate in a Peace Empowerment Programme involving the International School for Peace Studies Messines Programme and Holywell Consultancy. A representative group from the area will participate pre-programme training delivered by Holywell as part of their successful tender for support programme to the identified Interface Areas. This will then move to a second phase with a 5 day visit to Messine in Belgium facilitated by the International School for Peace Studies exploring the pivotal era of history from 1910 to 1921 involving the First World War, The Easter Rising and the Partition of Ireland. The final phase of the project will be post trip debunking the myths about history and building a shared understanding about our collective experience of conflict and division. The programme will build capacity and empower communities in conflict resolution and relationship building, enabling communities in the South East area of Dungannon to gain a new perspective on sectarianism and racism.
