Project Details

One Vision

The project has two main elements. The first is to support community cohesion by providing a shared space for existing and emerging groups from the Black and Minority Ethnic Communities, which would also be available to groups and organisations from the host community. Central to this aspect is the concept of sharing resources and working together to achieve common goals. In particular, the project will aim to develop closer working relationships with groups from the host community to enhance mutual understanding. This is a continuation and development of a project funded by the ERF (through CAP Research and Consulting) which provided resource centres throughout the UK for Refugee Community Organisations which were to be shared with other community organisations. The rationale of the project was to avoid duplication of services, make the best use of resources and to work co-operatively in the pursuit of common goals. NICRAS aims to develop this aspect by moving into premises owned by a community group from the host community which will benefit NICRAS, its partner groups from the Black and Minority Ethnic Communities and the groups from the host community. The second aspect of the project is to provide training which will benefit both the host and migrant communities. This is the second phase of a training project which started in mid-2008 which focussed on developing and delivering diversity training to a range of statutory and voluntary agencies. The development of this aspect will include delivering training relevant to both the host and newer communities. The new training will include: Workshops on applying for Citizenship, Working with Interpreters and Quality Assurance System for Refugee Organisations (QASRO) Training which supports the development of emerging organisations through building capacity.
