Project Details

In Common Time 4/4

Thirty young adults from the Inishowen Peninsula, Derry City, Strabane, Co. Tyrone and Letterkenny, Co. Donegal shall come together for a series of four residential music weekends. These young adults will be sourced from a diversity of backgrounds: Catholic, Protestant, Traveller and Non-national within the four geographical areas outlined above. They will be aged 14-16 and all will be passionate about music, pop or classical. They need not have any formal training in music but must show a particular passion and aptitude for music and also an interest in its potential for offering them career possibilities. The four weekend residencies will have a different theme of musical exploration, song-writing, composition, instrumental and voice tuition and performance. Each of these themes will be facilitated by an expert musician. The young adults will come together in smaller groups to form bands and ensembles. This musical journey will culminate in a series of public performances and the composition of a song cycle exploring themes of peace and reconciliation and cultural identity.
