Donegal GAA and Raphoe Hockey Club Skills Coaches Project

Donegal GAA and Raphoe Hockey club intend recruiting three coaches who will be shared by the respective sporting bodies – the coaches will be recruited and managed by the Donegal GAA. We intend hiring trained coaches to address three specific generic skills areas common to both sporting codes: 1. Speed Coach; 2. Strength Coach; 3. Sports Psychologist. Each of these coaches will be hired for a 10 month period (June 2010 – March 2011). The coaches will work predominantly in schools (both national and secondary) and with individual GAA teams in Donegal and Raphoe Hockey club. At all times the focus will be on U18 players. The coaches will spend equal time with male and female teams. The three coaches will also provide three weekends five hour workshops each month on their area of expertise (30 in total) were the two sporting organisations will jointly provide players and mentors to learn and share experiences. Over the course of the programme four workshops will be held, with the assistance of a trained facilitator to discuss matter relating to sectarianism, racism and or politics in sport, religion and its role in sport etc. The workshops subject title will be chosen by the participants and they will be held in August 2010, October 2010, December 2010 and February 2011.
